Blog by Marina Stedman – The Good Exchange takes part in #GivingTuesday
The Good Exchange is excited to join over 2,000 charities taking part in this year’s #GivingTuesday campaign, to be held on the 27th of November. The campaign was brought to the UK in 2014 by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), as an antidote to the mass consumerism surrounding Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Giving Tuesday aims to inspire people to think of others in the run up to Christmas, and incite action – be it through donating to charity, volunteering or simply helping a friend, neighbour or family member. The campaign in 2017 was an enormous success raising over $300m in online donations alone with volunteers and donors participating from 150 countries, including Antarctica. In the UK, the initiative received public support from celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Emma Watson, alongside big brands such as Virgin, ASOS and Sainsbury’s. The goal this year is to beat that record by encouraging goodwill and spreading empathy even further.
