Driving innovation and change

Over recent years there have been huge changes in the way that technology is being used across the charitable sector, driving massive benefits for all those raising money through crowdfunding appeals. Sadly, these opportunities have not yet been reflected in the way that the majority of charitable grant-giving organisations operate, and The Good Exchange is determined to change the status quo for the benefit of the charitable sector.

The Good Exchange aims to transform the way that money is given to good causes using its platform by making the service completely free for local and regional funders and individual donors.  A small platform service fee (correlated only to monies raised via the platform) which ensures continued sustainability is charged to applicant organisations.

The Good Exchange also (unlike many other crowdfunding platforms), absorbs all additional financial transaction fees and on-going running costs within the platform service fee and never asks for additional tips from funders or donors to keep for itself. The Good Exchange also provides a completely free Gift Aid collection service.

Registered charities, community groups, sports clubs or other groups (Applicant Organisation) that operate for community benefit within a 20 mile radius of Market Place, Newbury, Berkshire, can use The Good Exchange to apply for fundinq and fundraise for a recognised charitable purpose, attract donations and raise funds.

To get started simply register your Applicant Organisation on The Good Exchange platform and complete the single on-line application form. Applicant Organisations will need to include details of the project for which funding is required (including a description of the project, the goals, expected impact and benefits, costs and the amount of funding needed).

Once submitted and approved, the project is published on the platform and matching begins. Live projects will be automatically matched and short-listed for Funders on the platform according to their specific grant-giving criteria.

Through their personalised dashboard, Applicant Organisations can see exactly how many potential Funder matches have been identified, the number of funding shortlists on which their project has been placed, the number of funding offers that the project has received and the total amount of money raised and still to be raised to meet the project’s target.

At the same time, funders looking for good causes to fund are alerted that a project has been added to the platform that meets their funding criteria and can contact applicants directly if they have further questions. When a funding offer is made, applicants will be notified by e-mail and can log-in to The Good Exchange to see the details of the offer, review the terms and conditions and accept the offer.

You only do one grant submission & it’s seen by lots of other people that might never have heard of your organisation but suddenly want to donate. It’s a true collaboration …. thanks to The Good Exchange we’ve been able to get 2 new funders that we didn’t have previously which means that we’re creating new funding streams for ourselves.

The match funding was a really big incentive for us. The company that named us their charity of the year paid all the money they had raised through The Good Exchange which almost doubled the amount we received.

Create a personal Good Exchange account and then Register your Applicant Organisation

Click on the ‘Get Started’ button to firstly create a personal account on The Good Exchange.  You will then be guided through the Applicant Registration process to tell us about your organisation. You will need to provide information regarding your organisation structure (some types of organisations require Proof of ID), the type of work you do and your financial status. Watch a short step-by-step video that takes you through this process.

Don’t worry if you don’t have all the information to hand – this can be completed later or simply add another administrator e.g. your treasurer, to fill in the missing details. The information provided creates an Organisation Page on The Good Exchange See example.

Looking to join an organisation that is already registered?  No problem, follow the step above to create your personal account, search to find your organisation and request to join the team as an administrator.

Create a Fundraising Project

Create a project(s) to explain to potential funders and donors what you need funding for. The single application form guides you through the questions and the documentation you need to provide. Once you have submitted the project The Good Exchange team will review it and advise should you need to provide further information before the project goes live. Once live, the project will have an individual project page on The Good Exchange. See example.  Download the ‘How-To’ Guide for step-by-Step instructions.

Manage your Fundraising Project

Once live, your project(s) will be able to receive public donations straight away and if your fundraising project has beneficiaries within The Good Exchange’s area of operation it may also be matched with local and regional registered funders based on the information you have provided.  Funders can then choose whether to support your project with grants and/or match funding.

Sharing your Project on social media, newsletters, emails and websites can help to attract donors and fundraisers.

At any time, visit your Dashboard to manage your live projects.  You can increase the appeal of the page by adding images, videos, comments, updates and events.  From here you can also view and accept funding offers, respond to messages from funders, download funding reports and more….
